Hello Parkside Families!

Were you excited to hear that the Groundhog didn’t see its shadow? 😊  I do not typically believe in the results of this event, but the 40-degree weather had me thinking differently this week!  Between the weather and being able to stay out just a bit longer than usual (since it is still light out after 4:00) has been quite the gift!

Next week is Valentine’s Day, (Thursday, February 14th)!  Thursday we will have special friendship activities in our classrooms.  Classroom lists went home on the back of the classroom curriculum last week, if you need a new list please ask your child’s teacher or stop by the office.  The tradition of giving out valentines is a tradition that occurs in many of our classrooms.  Please know your child does not have to participate in this activity, we simply ask that if you do give out valentines to make sure everyone in the classroom gets a valentine.  We wanted to extend the act of kindness by making sugar cookies for all guests who will be at Sarah’s House next week.  This week we made our sugar cookie dough and all of our classrooms will decorate cookies on Monday.  In our Yosemite and Olympic rooms, we discussed why Sarah’s House is so important to many families and how this act of kindness helps these guests.  Parents, I invite you to continue these discussions at home as well.  Here is the link to Sarah’s House if you would like to know more of what this awesome non-profit does to help our community: https://www.sarahshouseofmaine.org/

Pre-K registration for 2019 went out this week!  Parents, if your child turns 4 before or on October 15th, your child is eligible for Pre-K.  If you are interested in signing your child up for Pre-K please make sure to bring in the 2nd page of the letter as well as the $100 pre-registration fee.  The $100 will go towards your September’s tuition, but it helps us to know the commitment for the fall.  Registration for Pre-K ends on Friday, February 22nd.  If you have any questions about our program or about the registration process, please stop by the office or e-mail me at jvachon@parksideclc.com.

Please remember Parkside is CLOSED on February 18th for teacher training!  We will have parent-teacher conferences in the morning from 8-9:30. Parents, there are sign-up sheets in your child’s classroom to sign-up for a 15-minute conference to discuss the assessment which will be delivered next week!  If you are unable to meet with us during this time and would like to meet with your child’s teacher, please stop by the office to schedule another time.  After our parent/teacher conferences, we will continue our training with TJ Holloway on assertive communication.  You may remember this is part II of our communication training, to help build our skills when communicating with each other in such a busy environment.

I am so excited to announce to you that we are finally going to start the process of changing out the flooring in our classrooms!  This has been a goal of mine for quite some time and I am so excited that we are finally making it happen!  We will start in our Grand Teton classroom beginning the evening of Friday, February 15th.  We have chosen a vinyl plank flooring to replace the tile and rug in this classroom.  This will allow us to have flooring which will allow us to keep clean more easily than the original flooring.  We are continuing to make plans to continue these changes throughout the building, but of course, this project takes a lot of time and we need to make sure we allow the contractors the appropriate time to get it done safely as well as correctly.  Therefore, we are making plans as we have long weekends in our calendars as well as utilizing our shut down week in July to continue throughout the building.

Have a great weekend,
