Hello Parkside Families,
I know I say this a lot, but it was a great week at Parkside! I had the opportunity to visit Delores, who is the House Manager at Sarah’s House this week when I delivered the $1000 donation from our color run. I have been trying to think of how to put into words my visit; I had such an emotional connection to Sarah’s House, that I know I will always remember the feelings I had during that visit. Isn’t it amazing when we have a moment or experience that is so powerful that we know that it is almost engrained in us? I had the pleasure meeting the many volunteers who help with the many roles and responsibilities to keep the program running. The kind-hearted people who work so hard were some of the most genuinely appreciative people! Hearing their stories about how they are connected with Sarah’s House either personally or because they had a loved one who battled with cancer brought tears to my eyes. I realize that I don’t have to go into such great detail about this visit with you, but I think it is so important for you to know that our donation is a meaningful one. Delores talked so intimately about the many relationships she has with the families who reside at Sarah’s House while they are receiving cancer treatments. I could relate to her when she talked about the connections she has with the families; we both talked about how lucky we are when it comes to having the opportunity to connect with others. I am so proud of the great work our program does, but I am even prouder to know that our great program just helped many others. What an awesome opportunity! Thank you so much again, for your ongoing support to Parkside as well as recognizing the importance of Sarah’s House is to our community.
If you are interested in continuing to support Sarah’s House, Delores gave me a list of items that are always useful to the program, which you can find at the end of this blog.
This week at Parkside we continued to enjoy the season of Fall! You may have noticed we asked you to take your child’s sunscreen home, now that we have officially entered Fall. Also, please continue to bring in extra layers for your child to wear as the temperatures are chilly in the morning! I don’t know about you, but I had to scurry around my house this week trying to find mittens for my daughter…and not even matching ones, just two mittens! I guess this is just the warning that it’s going to continue to get cooler outside, so please be prepared to bring in hats and mittens for your child. This week, the playground has been wet when we go out; please bring in boots to wear. We will continue to give our Preschool rooms a recess from 8-9 until the weather is too cold for us to go out.
Last week I spoke about the “no shoe policy we are implementing in every classroom beginning October 15th. I have heard great feedback from families, questions that I have been able to easily answer and others that have been more complicated. Therefore, I am looking to hear from you: what do you think would work the best when needing to pick your child up on the playground? What we know so far is that children will take their shoes off when they get inside the classroom; parents can either take their shoes off or cover them with booties. Children can either wear indoor shoes, slippers or wear their socks; parents. If you have any questions or thoughts about this policy please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parkside pumpkin patch: This weekend we will be decorating our front lawn with hay bales and pumpkins! We encourage you to bring in a decorated (not carved) pumpkin to add to our community pumpkin patch! 😊 We will keep the pumpkins until the end of October.
October 31, 2018: Halloween! The morning, of October 31st, we will have our traditional costume parade! Please bring your child in dressed in a costume, but please do not bring in any masks or a costume that may scare our younger children. Our parade will begin at 9:30 and once we have finished our teachers will place your child’s costume in a bag for you to take home at the end of the day. Please remember, we do not celebrate with candy; so please do not bring in any candy for others or your child.
Have a great weekend!
