Hello Parkside Families,

RAIN, RAIN GO AWAY…  As I am writing this week’s blog my fingers are crossed for dry weather!  Our gross motor experiences during this rainy weather included the obstacle course in the hallway, doing yoga, having a dance party and playing movement games.  Did you know that licensing regulations require us to provide at least 20 minutes of gross motor activity during the morning and afternoon hours? I know that it has only been two days of rain, but I think I can speak for all of the teachers and kids at Parkside that we really want to go out and run!

OLYMPIC CLASS VISITING PHILIP STRICKLAND HOUSE:  Thank you to the faculty at Philip Strickland for helping us to provide such an awesome experience to our Pre-K class!  Also, thank you to Heather, Lucy’s mom who helped us with the trip!  We hope you heard many terrific stories from your kids from this day; if not please take a look at all the pictures we took!

HALLOWEEN IS COMING!!  We are looking forward to celebrating Halloween at Parkside on TUESDAY, October 31st with all of the kids!  We will have all kinds of fun activities planned for this day!  When dropping your child off in the morning, please bring them dressed in their Halloween costume.  Around 9:30 we will have our Halloween parade in the center.  Please make sure your child has clothes to change into after the parade because our teachers will take your child’s costume off.  In the classrooms we will have different activities for the kids to participate in and will have a special Halloween snack for the afternoon.  Parents, please remember not to bring any masks or candy to school!

This week we asked you to give us your opinion on what times would work best for you to meet with your child’s teacher for 15 minutes on November 10th.  If you have not done so, please take a moment to check of which timeframe works best for you!  We will be announcing when the conferences will be next week for you to plan accordingly.  We will be offering child care for the conferences.  Please remember we will closed this day for teacher training.

NOVEMBER FOOD DRIVE:  Beginning next week you will see baskets outside of each of our classroom doors.  For the next three weeks we will be collecting non-perishable items which will be donated to a local food cupboard.  To help make this event a success we are going to have a friendly competition amongst all of the classrooms to see which room will collect the most!

HALLOWEEN SAFETY:  Bellow are tips from the CDC on how you can keep yourself and your family safe this Halloween.  You can find the whole article at

Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. WALK and don’t run from house to house.

Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it before bedtime to prevent possible skin and eye irritation.

Look both ways before crossing the street. Use crosswalks wherever possible.

Lower your risk for serious eye injury by not wearing decorative contact lenses.

Only walk on sidewalks whenever possible, or on the far edge of the road facing traffic to stay safe.

Wear well-fitting masks, costumes, and shoes to avoid blocked vision, trips, and falls.

Eat only factory-wrapped treats. Avoid eating homemade treats made by strangers.

Enter homes only if you’re with a trusted adult. Only visit well-lit houses. Never accept rides from strangers.

Never walk near lit candles or luminaries. Be sure to wear flame-resistant costumes.

Enjoy your weekend,

Jen V.
