Hello Parkside Families!
We hope you enjoyed your week! It certainly has felt as though summer is right around the corner at Parkside; we have been learning about the beach in Literacy and about types of seashells. The Yosemite classroom can sing a song that identifies the “Jingle Shell!” I hope you enjoy the pictures that your child’s classroom teachers took to capture the fun we had!
Monday, June 19th -June 23rd: Spirit week! Have your child celebrate with us by having fun dressing up in the following themes:
Monday: Mismatch day
Tuesday: Career day: Dress your child up like what they or you would like them to be when they grow up.
Wednesday: Hat Day
Thursday: Beach Day
Friday: Parkside spirit day! Wear green, blue and yellow
Pre-K Graduation! We cannot believe graduation is next week! Pre-K Families here is all of the information you need to have for the upcoming week: We have a special activity planned everyday next week!
Monday: we will have a special team activity (which you will see at graduation)! We will also have a special treat planned for the kids to eat!
Tuesday: playground walk with individual journals
Wednesday: Graduation rehearsal! We will walk over the Clifford Eames Learning Center (203 Maine Ave.) to practice our graduation program. At this time, we are unsure of when we are going to leave Parkside due to the weather being a large part of our decision. Typically, we leave Parkside around 3:15 and will be at the Bangor Savings building for about an hour. We will announce this time next week as we get closer to Wednesday!
Thursday: Olympic graduates will wear their caps and gowns and have a parade through Parkside so all of our friends can congratulate them!
Friday: The Olympic Olympians! This event is similar to field day: we will have 6 events for the kids to participate in outside on the playground. There will be a relay race, bowling, obstacle course, bean bag toss, egg race and hula hooping! This event will begin at 9:30 and we will finish with popsicles! If the weather is better on Thursday than Friday we will swap these two activities! We will announce this next week! Parents, please make sure your child is dressed in athletic clothing for this event and not in their graduation outfit! You can bring their outfits to Parkside at drop-off and we can get them dressed later in the afternoon. We will plan to walk to graduation around 3:30 to head over 203 Maine Ave. Graduation will begin at 4:00; the ceremony will last about 30 minutes and we will then move to the reception room for cupcakes! We look forward to seeing you there!
If you have any questions about all of the events planned for next week please talk with Miss Meghan or Miss Sherri, or stop by the office!
Wednesday, June 28th: Philip Strickland visit! Olympic will visit the residents at Philip Strickland again! We have a special craft planned to celebrate Independence Day!
July 3rd -July 7th: Parkside is CLOSED for shut down week! Tuition remains the same for shut down week! Your tuition dollars enable Parkside to give our full-time teachers a week of paid vacation time. In addition, shut down week allows our center to complete necessary construction projects and repairs plus deep cleaning that we cannot complete while in operation. We wish you and your family a wonderful week together.
Fields4Kid Fundraiser: As you may know, we have had a partnership with MJ Ball and Fields4Kids for the past two years. We have had the awesome opportunity to send our Big Sur, Yosemite and Olympic classrooms over to their indoor soccer facility during the winter months to extend the opportunity to have more physical activity during the (typically) frigid months! We are looking to help Fields4Kids with this fundraiser on June 23rd and want to give you this information if you are interested in helping too! Below is the information on the purpose for this fundraiser and how you can help:
Our goal is to raise $50,000 to maintain and upgrade our current facility and to add an outdoor field option adjacent to our indoor facility by renovating a 5.5 acre parcel of land for outdoor fields that are so desperately needed. This is an exciting time for our organization and region and here’s how you can help!
Fundraising is literally at your fingertips. Send a link to your page to friends, family and contacts for safe and secure online donations. (Checks can be mailed to Fields4Kids, 129 Farm Road, Bangor, ME 04401) Here is how the Kicks4Kash Fundraiser works:
- For every $10 you contribute, you earn a shot on goal
- For every goal you score, you receive a ticket (yes, there will be goalkeepers)
- You take the ticket to the prize table and place it in the box next to the item you’d like to win
- At the end of the night, we draw one lucky winner out of each box and they win the designated prize
If you are away or live out of state, we will designate a “shooter” for you to try to win you some prizes (The more goals scored, the more tickets earned, the better the chance to win a prize)
Example: Jimmy gets $250 in pledges so he gets 25 chances to score a goal. He scores 17 goals and gets 17 tickets to place in whichever prize boxes he likes.
- There is an additional prize for the top 5 earners (Adidas clothing of their choice)
