April 7, 2017

Hello Parkside Families,

April in Maine is usually defined by mud, snow, rain, sunshine, and blustery days; this week we experienced all of this!  Some of our parents have been asking when they should bring home their child’s snow pants.  We do not suggest taking these home until the playground is dry and that the temperatures are MUCH warmer during the morning and afternoon recesses.  We do suggest that you take them home regularly to wash and dry as well as your child’s boots; some of the kids’ gear is so wet that even letting it hang overnight is not enough time for it to dry the next day!

**The bikes are coming out!!  Beginning Monday we will have the bikes back out on the playground!  Please make sure to bring in a helmet for your child to wear on Monday.  We will have extras available until this is possible.  Please remember Parkside requires every child to wear a helmet while on any item with wheels!**

Parkside Parent Survey:  Thank you to all of the families who took the time to complete our parent survey; we have already received valuable information over the past week!  Please remember the link to the survey (found below) will be available to our survey from Survey Monkey through the month of April.  We are having a friendly competition to see which classroom receives the most percentage of responses; the room with the most will receive lunch!   Please click on this link to complete the survey:

*Friday, April 14th:  Egg Hunt!  During our afternoon recesses we will have an egg hunt and the Easter Bunny will visit too!  The infant and toddler egg hunt will be around 2:45 and preschool classrooms will be around 4:15, if you would like to join us!  If your child attends Tuesdays and Thursdays, you are invited to bring your child and stay for the fun!

*Monday, April 17th:  Patriots Day:  Parkside is OPEN!

*April 24-28th:  Week of the Young Child!  Every year we celebrate this exciting week, which was started by NAEYC (National Association for the education of young children) to emphasize the importance of early child education.  The week is divided by theme days: Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday.

In addition to these theme days we have signup sheets in the classrooms for you to sign up to read to your child’s classroom.  Please talk with your child’s teacher if you have any questions about this week!

*May 1st-5th: Teacher Appreciation Week!  As you know, our teachers work hard; this week is dedicated to showing them how much we appreciate them!  We have different ways that we like to recognize them, but we know that families may want to do the same.  This does not mean you need to purchase items for your teachers, in fact a letter or card has a greater meaning than a gift.  If you have any questions about this week, please stop by the office!

EPI PEN RECALL!!  If you have an EPI pen or you know of someone who has one, please make sure to share this information.  Below is all of the specific information regarding the recall and what do if you are affected.  You can find this information at:

Enjoy the weekend,
