February 24, 2017
Hello Parkside Families!
We had a fantastic week at Parkside enjoying the beautiful weather and the (very) wet snow! We had the chance to welcome back some of our “old” friends for back-up care while they were on February vacation. I also had the opportunity to go to Fields4Kids this week with our preschool classrooms. I couldn’t help but to think how awesome of an event this is for the kids as they were running the field playing with their teachers. One child from the Olympic classroom asked if we could stay forever; I had a hard time saying “no.”
**Extra clothes reminder**: The snow is quickly melting which is causing our playground to be slushy and very wet! Please remember to take inventory of your child’s cubby (daily) to make sure they have 2 shifts, 2 pairs of pants, 2 pairs of socks, 2, pairs of underwear, 2 pairs of mittens. Also, please make sure to check your child’s snow pants and boots to see if they need to go home to be cleaned.
*Pre-K Registration has officially ended as of Friday evening! We are looking forward to having a terrific 2017 year! If you have any questions about this deadline or our program please stop by the office. Please remember we will be depositing the $100 prepayments in March.
*Next week is theme week at Parkside! We are going to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday (on March 2nd) ALL next week! Below are the themes for each day:
Monday: “Red Fish, Blue Fish”; wear red or blue
Tuesday: Wear green for “Green Eggs and Ham”
Wednesday: Wacky hair; wear your hair in a crazy hair style
Thursday: “Cat in the Hat” wear a hat day
Friday: “Fox in Socks” wear mismatched or crazy socks
Thursday, March 2nd: Olympic field trip! The Olympic class will be leaving Parkside at 8:45 and will be transported by Cyr Bus to the University of Maine at Augusta dental clinic (right down the road). The kids will have the opportunity to explore the clinic for an hour and will plan to leave the clinic at 10:00. There is a permission slip on top of the cubbies in Olympic; please make sure to sign it.
*Friday, March 10th: Parkside will be CLOSED for teacher training! We are looking forward to spending a day learning from three terrific presenters; we will also take some time throughout the day to discuss curriculum. Please know that we will be offering parent/teacher conferences from 1-3 during this day; you can sign up for a 15 minute conference using the sign-up sheets on top of your child’s cubbies.
*Friday, March 10th– Friday, March 17th: Scholastic Book Fair! We are looking forward to having the book fair back at Parkside! We will have the opportunity for you to purchase books during our shut down day and throughout the following week. We are also taking this event to help support Literacy Volunteers of Maine by asking you to purchase a book to this wonderful organization. We will present the books to the organization at the end of the book fair.
*Thursday, March 16th; 5:30-6:30: Parent/Teacher Advisory Meeting: We are looking forward to meeting to discuss our annual parent survey. We will review last year’s survey and discuss items we want to add and remove from the survey so that it accurately reflects this years’ experience at Parkside. We hope to see you there!
Have a great weekend,
