January 9, 2017
Hello Parkside Families,
We hope you’ve had a great start to 2017! We have a fun start to our 2017 year at Parkside. Now that the holidays are over and we can get back to our “normal” routines, there are many fun events that we have planned!
Tuesday, January 10th: Parkside’s 10th anniversary!! We are looking forward to celebrating Parkside’s 10th anniversary next Tuesday, by creating a day long birthday celebration! We will have birthday decorations, cupcakes, games, and many other activities to celebrate this special day! We would like everyone to dress up in Parkside’s colors: blue, green, or yellow. In our Preschool classrooms, we invite you and your child to pick out 10 items(such as ten pennies, pom-poms, cheerios, or legos) from home to bring to their classroom to show. Look for pictures from this event posted on our Facebook throughout the day! Below, is a more information:
“Winter in Maine” In the upcoming weeks, you will receive a questionnaire from your child’s teachers asking you to tell us about what kinds of activities you do at home through the winter months. This questionnaire is one of the steps to help us prepare a month long curriculum that focuses on “winter in Maine.” This month long curriculum is an example of what is called “the project approach curriculum.” The project approach is when our teachers take a theme, such as “Winter in Maine” and we find out information from home, as well as what the kids in our classrooms know, and then we take an extended time (in this case a month) to teach. You will be hearing more about this as we get closer to the month of February. We also encourage you to talk with your child’s teachers if you have an activity or sport that you would like to talk with your child’s class about!
**Extra clothing is needed** As you may have discovered the playground is quite wet! Throughout this week we have had to change many children’s socks and shoes when they come inside from the playground. Please make sure your child’s cubby has at least two pairs of socks, pants, and mittens every day.
Fever and Illness reminder: Please remember if your child has a fever of 101 or higher their fever must drop below the threshold of 101 for 24 or more hours without having any fever reducing medication. We also have a 24 hour policy for vomiting and diarrhea, children must be excluded from the program until 24 hours from the last time they had diarrhea and/or vomit. If you have any questions about our sick policy please feel free to call us or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
