Hello Parkside Families,

I hope you have had a wonderful week!  We are gearing up for our fall program, by having more children transition in the center, welcoming new families, and also by welcoming our new music teacher: Aaron Richard!  We are very excited to have Aaron join our team; he comes to us with a Bachelors degree in music education and currently works with children in his full-time position.  Aaron will provide an experience of introducing a variety of types of music and songs with your child as well as a variety of different instruments.

Enrollment Update:  The last days of fall enrollment are upon us (we’re halfway through August almost–wow!) and we have just a few spots left available.  We had a large number of PreK graduates this year which opened up nearly 30 spots–unheard of!  We have arranged our openings so that there is at least one opening in most rooms (except for the babies!).  Tell friends and neighbors to hurry in, as typically we’re full by the first week of September!

“We’ve Got Your Back Campaign” I am so proud to see how many school supplies we already have to donate to this campaign!  This result is the reason why Penquis C.A.P. has identified Parkside as a sponsor with this campaign.  Please remember we will be donating all materials to Penquis C.A.P on August 17th!  Penquis will then sort through all of the supplies and deliver them to local families.  I will announce the total amount of supplies given to Penquis C.A.P in next week’s blog.

“End of the Year Event”:  Friday, August 26th (rain date August 25th):  We are looking forward to celebrating the end of our program year with you!  The bounce houses and all of the several activities will be ready at our morning recess times and will continue through the afternoon.  The Grand Teton, Glacier, Sequoia, Zion, and Yellowstone classrooms will have recess times at: 9:30-10:45 and from 2:30-3:30.  Big Sur, Yosemite, and Olympic classrooms will have recess times at: 11:00-12:15 and from 3:45-5:15.  There will be permission slips in each classroom giving permission for your child to bounce in the bounce houses; please look for those on the top of your child’s cubbies.  Please remember to dress your child in socks to wear in the bounce houses.  This day is to celebrate children who are leaving Parkside and to welcome those who are new to Parkside!  For families who have left Parkside, we welcome you to come back with your child to have some fun!

**Parkside is CLOSED on Friday, September 2nd and Monday, September 5th!  We will be closed for our all day teacher training on Friday, September 2nd!  We are looking forward to spending the day with our teachers working on our new program theme: mindfulness.  We will also spend time in our classrooms preparing to begin our program year on September 6th.  Please remember tuition remains the same: for families who pay weekly, your tuition is due Thursday afternoon.

Fundraising at Parkside:  We have heard and listened to many suggestions you have in regards to the fundraising events we have at Parkside.  Over the past several years, we have had fundraisers that include organizations that are not in our community.  We are looking into providing more opportunities that are more impactful to those in our community.  We are currently in the process of planning our very first Parkside Color Race for September!  Stay tuned for more information!

What should I pack for lunch?  This is such a popular question we get when we’re doing tours or during our needs and services meetings.  I know that this can be a challenge at our house, especially when it feels like you are packing the same items every day!  I found this website to help provide some variety and ideas when thinking about your child’s lunch. The website is:  This website has recipes but also ideas on how to pack a balanced lunch for your child.  The website is created by Produce for Kids, which I find as a great overall resource if you are not familiar with this resource.  I hope that this website will help to answer the ever popular question: “what should I pack for lunch?

Enjoy your weekend,
