Jen M-R Updates for the Week of June 24-28

Hello Parkside Families!

Vacation week is almost here, and we wish you all a wonderful week!  Here at Parkside we’ll be cleaning all the carpets, doing general maintenance, and going through all the files with a fine toothed comb!  We will be checking messages all week but will definitely be in the office at least Tuesday and Wednesday if you need us because we’re replacing the two office desk top computers as well.  We hope you have a restful and fun week (and wish us ALL excellent weather)!  Please remember that tuition remains the same during vacation due to our Paid Time Off program for full time staff.

Sprinklers

Please note that on super-hot days we will be using our sprinklers to keep children cool, as well as offering cold water throughout recess.  We will be monitoring children for heat exhaustion and limiting time outside on days that are unhealthfully hot.  In that spirit, we need your help:  please provide extra clothing, perhaps a bathing suit or even extra shorts and T-shirts, plus a second pair of shoes.  We have to require shoes on the playground but know that they’ll get wet.  Extra shoes and clothes will ensure that your child is comfortable for the remainder of his/her day.

Children and Pets in Cars

The following chart and warning came to us from one of our parents, Tracey Ruhlin, and we think it’s timely advice:

How many have had animals or even children in your vehicle during warm weather and said, “I’m only going be gone for a few minutes” ?  The attached is a chart that shows the relationship of the outside temperature to the inside temperature of your vehicle.  It doesn’t take long for the temperature inside your vehicle to reach a life threatening level. Leaving your vehicle running with the AC on isn’t the best solution either, there have been many recorded vehicle fires from the AC units malfunctioning. The best decision is make other arrangements and don’t put your pets or children in harm’s way.
